AI Welding Robot: Mark It with Chalk, the Robot Welds It

The hardest part of welding with a robot arm is often not the welding itself but programming the robot for every new part. On DKT’s AI welding robot this is done with a piece of chalk: your welder draws a mark near the spots to be welded, AI recognises these marks in the camera image and the robot welds the seam nearest to each mark.

How it works

The welder marks

The part is placed on the table; your welder draws chalk marks near the spots to be welded.

AI recognises

The camera sees the part; AI detects the chalk marks and finds the seam nearest to each mark.

The robot welds

The robot arm moves to the seams it found and welds them. During welding the camera and laser sensors track the seam.

Next part

No need to reprogram the robot for a new part; your welder simply marks it with chalk again.

Who is it for?

  • Workshops with frequently changing parts, small batches or one-off production
  • Companies that want a robot but cannot find a robot programmer
  • Those who want the robot to do the welding while keeping the skilled welder’s judgement: the welder still decides where the weld goes

The robot arm

We configure our robot arms to your needs between 2 and 4 metres, with 4 to 6 axes. We build the robot ourselves or source it ready-made; the AI, vision system and software are DKT’s. The welding power source is chosen according to your preference. As on all our robots, this robot also has camera seam tracking and laser distance control.

Send us your part and we will take a look

Send a few photos and the dimensions of the part to be welded on WhatsApp; we will get back to you on suitability and a quote.

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI recognise the chalk mark?

The robot’s camera takes an image of the part; AI detects the chalk marks in this image and sets the weld seam nearest to each mark as the target.

Is no programming needed at all?

No classic point-by-point programming is needed for each new part; the chalk mark defines where to weld. The robot’s initial setup and welding settings are done during commissioning.

Which parts does it work on?

Send photos and dimensions of your part and we will check suitability together. For long straight seams a welding carriage may be the better choice.

Is the welding machine included?

The welding power source is chosen according to your preference. We select the right machine for your job together.
