There is no single answer to “how much does a welding robot cost?”. A welding carriage on a rail and a 6-axis robot arm cell are very different, and even the same robot is priced differently depending on your part, your welding machine and the scope of the vision system. On this page we explain the cost items one by one and give you a calculator to estimate how many months the robot needs to pay for itself.
What makes up the price
| Item | What it depends on |
|---|---|
| Robot or carriage | Type (welding carriage or robot arm), number of axes, reach and rail length. We configure our robot arms between 2 and 4 metres with 4 to 6 axes, and build or source them to your needs. |
| Welding machine | Chosen according to your preference; the process (MIG/MAG, submerged arc, etc.) and power requirement decide. |
| Machine vision | Camera seam tracking, laser distance control and, on the robot arm, AI that recognises chalk marks. All our robots have it; the scope depends on the job. |
| Fixture and positioner | How the part is held and, if needed, rotated. Being part-specific, it is one of the items that varies most. |
| Safety | For robot arm cells, if needed: fencing, welding curtains and emergency stop circuits. |
| Commissioning and training | On-site installation, welding settings and operator training; depends on location and duration. |
Welding carriage or robot arm?
For long, straight seams (tank, silo and pipe bodies) a welding carriage is usually the simpler and more economical solution: a rail, a carriage and a torch holder are enough. Short and scattered seams on different parts need a robot arm; it offers more reach and flexibility and costs accordingly more. See our welding carriage and AI welding robot pages for details.
Payback period calculator
Enter your own figures to see the robot’s monthly saving and how many months it takes to pay back the investment. The result is an estimate; it changes with your own costs. Use any currency, as long as you use the same one in every field.
We explain the logic and which items to include in our article how many months does a welding robot take to pay for itself?
What to send for a quote
- A few photos and the dimensions of the part to be welded
- Material and plate thickness
- Welding process (MIG/MAG, submerged arc, etc.) and your current welding machine, if any
- Monthly number of parts or monthly seam length
- Where the robot will be installed

Frequently asked questions
Why is there no fixed welding robot price?
Because every job is different: robot type, reach, welding machine, fixture and vision scope change with the job. Send photos and dimensions of your part and we will price it for you.
Can I use my existing welding machine?
The welding machine is chosen according to your preference. We check together whether your current machine suits the robot.
What items does the quote include?
We itemise the quote: robot or carriage, welding machine, vision system, fixture and safety equipment if needed, and commissioning.
How long does a robot take to pay for itself?
It depends on the welding hours the robot takes over, your welder’s hourly cost and the investment. Enter your figures in the calculator on this page for an estimate.
